A special thanks to all!!

I just wanted to take a moment and thank all of my EDUC 6005 classmates for all their contributions this quarter. Your words of wisdom, your innovative thoughts, and your detailed responses have really made a difference in my educational future. I have not only learned new things from the resources and assignments provided in this course but I've learned from my classmates. That's knowledge that is immeasurable to me. In an effort to keep this short I will leave it at that.

Thank you all for everything you have done and I wish you all success and continued advocacy in the future!

Examining Code of Ethics

DEC and NAEYC have many different Codes of Ethics. There are just a few that stick out to me that I feel strongly about.

  1. DEC feels that you should always display professional and interpersonal behavior. This includes being respectful to children by using appropriate language. Demonstrating the highest level of integrity and truthfulness towards the children and employees. Finally, serving as advocate (a voice for those who cannot defend themselves) for children with disabilities and their families.
    • The message that's being conveyed sets the standard for educators to respect children, families, and employees to be respectful to all those most importantly children. I also feel it's important to remember that we are the advocates for children and that we are their voice. By respecting them and teaching them by demonstrating the highest standards we are changing lives.
  2. To be familiar with the knowledge base of early childhood care and education and to stay informed through continued education. (NAEYC)
    • This is something I currently do. I decided to get my bachelors because I wanted to continue to learn about children and their development. When I realized there was more to learn I decided to pursue my Masters while becoming child care credentialed, and taking other professional development courses which my job requires but i'm more than willing to take. It's beneficial to stay informed with the latest because this field as we all know is ever changing.
  3. To appreciate the vulnerability of children and their dependence on adults. (NAEYC)
    • I feel it's important to understand that children are young and don't know everything that we know. When we were their age we wanted adult guidance for everything but still wanted to be independent. It's important to know that they are growing, developing humans that have a natural hunger for adult satisfaction, nurturing, and respect. By fostering these thing you will help a child grow up to be more independent and self sufficient.
